JOURNALISTS' INSTITUTE.

CHEISTCHURCH BBAXCH. The annual meeting of the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Institute of Journalists was held at the Clarendon Hotel yesterday afternoon. There was a good attendance, and Mr S. Saunders, chairman, presided. The Secretary, Mr G. E. Allen, read the annual reporfc of the committee, which showed that the branch had eighteen members in good standing, and that there was a substantial credit balance. The committee suggested that the secretary should be sent to Wellington to represent the branch at the annual meeting of the Institute. The Treasurer, Mr "VV. G. Ataclr, read the balance-sheet, audited by Mi 1 F. E. Hyman. On the motion of the Chairman, seconded by Mr Trigjfs, . the report and balance-sheet were adopted. Two junior associates were elected to full membership, and six new ' members were elected. The new rules ■ prepared by the committee were adopted with slight / alteration. . The following officers were elected for the ensuing year: — Chairman, Mr S. Saunders; honorary secretary, Mr G. E. Allen ; honorary treasurer, Mr W. G. Ataclr ; committee, Messrs W. H. Triefgs, G. Capper, W. H. Graham, O. W. Exall, J. L. Kelly and H. M. Eeeves ; representatives on the Council of the Institute, Messrs W. H. Triggs and G. "ft. Allen ; delegates to the annual meeting of the Institute, Messrs G. E., Allen and W. G. Atack ; auditor, Mr G. Milne. A number of suggestions from the Cominitteo for alterations in the Institute by-laws were adopted. The principal of these were that the payment of an entrance fee by members should be suspended for the present, and that the contributions from bi # anehes should be sent to the Institute yearly instead of quarterly. After some further business the meeting closed.
