Ollivier was appointed sole selector. ; The number of . men Canterbury would l put in the field. against Australia was then » discussed.. It was pointed out that the Cricket Council had, decided to play fifteen' men against the Australian team in , the New Zealand match, and that this being so, eighteen men would be a fair number • for provincial teams. As against this it was argued that the public wanted to see a really good exhibition of cricket, and that three extra men in the field would tend to cramp the play of the Australians. An i opinion was also expressed that the , Canterbury team with eighteen men would probably make the Australians ex- ! tend themselves. The settlement of the question was postponed until next Friday's meeting. A letter was read from the Secretary, New. Zealand Cricket Council, asking the Association to submit to the selectors names of players who were eligible for the New Zealand team, and to state whether such players would be available for the ', match New Zealand v.
