EVENING SITTING.

The Legislative Council resumed at 7.30 p.m. The first schedule was altered on the motion of the Hon G-. M'Lean to the following effect : — Each vessel of more than 150 and not more than 300 horse-power, if running less than 300 miles between ports, must carry one engineer, and in all other cases two engineers ; each vessel of more than 300 and not more than 1250 horsepower, if ranning less than 300 miles between ports, must carry two engineers and in all other cases three engineers, and for every additional 1250 or part of 1250 horse-power one additional engineer. The Bill was then reported Avith amendments. SEA FISHERIES. TheHonsW. D. Stewart, Kelly and W. C. Walker were appointed managers in the .conference to be held' with the' Lower House on the Sea Fisheries Act Amendment Bill. HOROWHENUA. The Horowhenua Block Bill was received from the Lower House, and read a first time. ' • ' ' BILLS. The Borough of Masterton Water Supply and Drainage Works Loan Empowering Bill, and Harbour Act Amendment Bill passed their final stages. The Mataura Eeserve Vesting Bill was read a second time. SEAWORTHINESS OF VESSELS. The Hon J. Kioo gave notice that he would move on next sitting day that th« Government should set \ip a Royal Com-

mission to report on the seaworthiness or otherwise of all vessels engaged- in the intercolonial or coastal trade, whether they are sufficiently manned, and as to the accommodation of passengers. At 8.40 p.m. the Council adjourned till Monday afternoon.
