Tuesday, Sept. 8." . (Before Mr S. R. Webb, J.P.) : Obscene Language, .&ol—E.\Phipps, amember of the crew of the steamer Tekoa, irks clfiarged with disobeying la.wfitl commands. He pleaded guilty, and was sent to gaol for forty-eight hours and ordered to pay costs. He was further charged with using obscene language. From the evidence of the steward, and chief officer it appeared that the accused asked the former to post a letter for him, and to stop the cost of postage from his weekly allowance. On Saturday, when he had been drinking and was given his allowance, he ■ objected to the money for the stamp being stopped, and created a disturbance on board, using most filthy language to the chief officer. He, was sent to gaol for one month.
