POLITICAL CENTRAL COUNCIL.
A well-attended meeting of the Liberal and Labour Political Central Council was held in lnglis' Buildings on Friday evening. Mr W. Williams (vice-president) occupied the chair. The Secretary reported that lie had written to the Boilermakers' Union and the Casual Wharf Labourers' Union, urging these bodies to become affiliated to the Council. Messrs J. Joyce, M.H.R., and T. E. Taylor wrote, forwarding replies to the test questions submitted by the Council. The letters were received and held over. The mode of taking the ballot for the final selection of candidates was again discussed at some length, it being ultimately decided that the Council should invite all the members of the organisations affiliated to it to meet at a place and time to be fixed for the purpose of taking a ballot for the final selection of candidates. It was also determined that the ballot should be conducted on the second ballot principle, in order that the candidates selected should receive the actual majority of the votes polled. The Secretary was directed to write to Mr A. Saunders, M.H.R., and' to Mr M'Nab, M.H.R., asking these gentlemen to furnish the Council with particulars and directions as to the working of their respective plans to ensure the representation of majorities. A sub-committee was appointed to draw up a scheme for carrying out the ballot for the selection of candidates and to report at an early date. '
