THE ESCAPED PRISONER.

[Per Press Association.] j NELSON, Sept. 6. ; All Saturday the police and warders i were searching for the escaped prisoner Anderson. Constable Kelly went in the direction of Havelock via Wakapuaka, and ': tracked boot prints, which were visible ', •ocea'sionally, the wearer having walked in '■■ the water where he could. On reaching the house of .Mr Bird, in Wangamoa, the owner of which was absent, the constable stopped and watched, knowing that there were firearms in the house, till the return of Mr Bird, and about half-past six on Saturday evening Bird's dog showed that someone was in the scrub. Constable Kelly covered Anderson with his revolver, and he then handcuffed him and brought him to town early this morning. The ; prisoner walked through part of the town on Friday night, and met a number of people, but said they took no notice of him.
