FIRE.

[Per Press Association.] AUCKLAND, August 24. The shop and residence of J. M'Mahon, bootmaker, Hamilton, was completely destroyed by fire at two o'clock this morning. Pour occupants, who were sleeping in an upper story, had a narrow escape, but succeeded in lowering themselves to a verandah by a rope. The wind was favourable, otherwise the whole street, including Gwynne's Hotel, would have gone. The insurances are unknown. Nothjflg was saved.
