CANTERBURY WOMEN'S INSTITUTE.
A special meeting of the committee of the Canterbury Women's Institute was held on Tuesday afternoon at Chancery Lane Hall, Mrs Henderson in the chair. The meeting was called to consider the need of the appointment of a lady to the Charitable Aid Board, and to take action in regard to a communication from the Liberal and Labour Council . It was una niniously resolved to ask Mrs Blake, a prominent member of the Institute, to allow herself to be nominated as a candidate for a seat on the Charitable Aid Board at the coming election. Mrs Blako's well-known desire to ameliorate the conditions of the poor and needy, and her untiring efforts on behalf of the unemployed, were felt to bo ample qualifications for the position and valid recommendations to the electors. The Secretary was instructed to write to other organisations, setting forth Mrs Blake's claims to their support, and asking their endorsement of this lady's candidature. The names of probable candidates for pai'liamentary honours were discussed, and it was. resolved that the Institute could support the claims of independent Liberals only. .
