MEETINGS OF SOCIETIES.

Orangeism. — The monthly meeting of No. 3 Victoria Ladies' Orange Lodge was hold on Tuesday evening 1 , at Sydenhain. Tho Lady President (Sister Gourley) occupied the chair, and Sister Taylor the vicechair. . Several persons were initiated, and two proposed for membership. 'Tho committee of the Twelfth of July celebration gavo in its report, and the Lodge decidedto do all in its power to make the celebration a success. A hearty vote of thanks was passed to the visiting sisters, after which the Lodge was closed in due form by the Lady President.— The monthly meeting of No. 1 Maiden City, L.0.L., was held in the Methodist Church, Linwood, on Tuesday evening,- W.M. Bro W. J. Straw, presiding. Three candidates were proposed for membership. After the usual business had been transacted,, the Lodge' was closed by the W.M. A very successful "social" was then held, Bro J. Joyce, M.H.R., presiding. A pleasant evening was brought to a close by singing the National Anthem. Forestry.— The half-yearly meeting of the members of Court Thistle of the Forest, A.0.F., Sydenham, was held in the Druids' Hall on Tuesday evening. The Woodwards reported that only one member was on the sick funds. In reply to a circular from the ( Auckland district, the Secretary was instructed to furnish the information asked for and to state that the court was in favour of the third proposal made in regard to clearance members. The medical officers nominated were Drs J. H. and G. E. Deamer, J. Irving and Diamond. During the evening one member was initiated into the Order and -two wore proposed for membership. — A summoned meeting of Court Star of Canterbury was held on Monday evening, C. R. Bro J. Y. Beattie in the chair. The Woodwards re- . ported eight members sick. A letter was read from Bro Garrett, secretary of Court Auckland, in reference to' a uniform rate for clearance members, and was referred to the Managing Committee for a. report. The nomination of officers for the ensuing term was then taken. An invitation to a card party and social evening on Thursday, June 18, was received from Court Queen of Canterbury, and accepted. Correspondence was read and sick pay passed. Receipts of the evening,' .£3 12s.
