KAIAPOI v. N'TU AHURIRI.
The Star. CHRISTCHURCH v. CANTERBURY COLLEGE.
This game "was played at Lancaster Park. N'tu Ahuriri kicked off, and M'Grath, taking the ball, made a capital run right up the field, which, being followed by some passing amongst the Kaiapoi forwai'ds, ahnost resulted in a! score. The Kaiapoi forwards kept the play dangerously near the Maoris' goal-line until W. Uru intercepted a pass and ran right through the opposition. He was collared by Pearce on the line, but Miller obtained the ball and scored. "W. Uru failed with the easy kick. A lot of forward play ensued at the centre, the bad work of the Kaiapoi backs neutralising the play of their forwards. H. Uru was noticeable for stopping several dangerous rushes, while "W. Uru's long kicks into touch were of great service. Atlialf -time the Maori team had a lead of three points. The early part of the second spell, saw all the play at the Maoris' goal-line, and only their accurate tackling saved a score. W. Urii changed the venue by a great run from his own twenty-five, and Miller,, who had followed up •smartly, kicked the ball over the line and easily scored. • The try was not improved. Play for some time after this was at the centre, until Pearce intercepted a foot-pass and scored. Eenaldi did not improve. Within a few minutes ' of time, however, Eenaldi got a mark and Duncan placed a fine goal, which gave Kaiapoi the victory by one goal from a mark and one try (seven points) to two tries (six points). Mr F. T. Evans was referee.
This match -was played at Sydenham Park, and was won easily by Christchurch by twenty points to nil. In Boyce's absence the College played with only fourteen men. Ten minutes after the start of
play, Thompson scored for Chrbtchurijii! as the result of a good run. The kick at goal was a failure. From this to the close' ©f. the spell the College were kept pretty constantly on the defensive. Smith scored two tries for Christchurch, neither of which was converted. The second spell was chiefly a repetition of the first. The College were beaten at all points, and play was almost continually in their twenty-five. Brown, Thompson and Clark scored in succession for Christchurch, one, of the tries being converted by Smith, and the game ended as above stated. For the losers, Ferguson, Hawkins, Walker, Ward and one or two others played really well, and but for their efforts the score would have been much larger. MrSoper was referee.
