DRAINAGE BOARD.

THIS, DAT. An ordinary meeting of the Christchurch District. Drainage Board was held at 2.30 p.m. to-day ; present — Messrs John Deans (chairman), H. Crooks, E. H. Fisher and C. Palairet. Apologies were received for the absence of Messrs M'Alpine and M'lntyre. The secretary and .treasurer's report showed: — Amount of rates received since last meeting, .£IOO3 18s 6d; received from other sources, -£178 8s 6d. Expenr diture since last meeting, rate account, .£2lB 13s 6d. Amount of rates, outstanding—lß93, .£64 12s 6d; 1894, .£lO4 12s 9d; 1895, .£1667 13s 4d. Amount of 1895 rates collected to date, .£17,524 13s 4d. Amount of debit balance, .£1370 15s 3d. The Engineer reported upon the flooding of the North Eoad, that what was required was the erection of a dam in Mr Foster's and adjoining properties, and the widening of the boundary drain for fourteen chains south of Craddock's 'Eoad. It would be necessary to get the consent of the owners of the land in which it, was proposed to erect the dam. The engineer was instructed to carry out the work. Mr G. W. Eussell, M.H.E., wrote stating that if the Local Bodies Loans Conversion Act in its present shape was likely to result in no material benefit, he would be glad to receive any suggestions the Board had to offer as to amending the Act, or in the direction of fresh legislation. , It was decided to reply that the Act having provided for a sinking fund it was of no use to the Board in its present form. Mr W. Dixey was appointed examiner in plumbing, vice Mr Dunn, resigned. The fireman at the pumping station was granted a fortnight's holiday. Accounts amounting to -3218 13s 6d were passed for payment. Messrs H. Mace and G. J. Webster, Clerk to the Heathcote Eoad Board, waited, upon the Board in reference to a drain under the Board's control running down Palnjer's Eoad, which was flooding Mr Mace's property. They requested that the .drain might be cleaned out. The matter was left in the hands of the Works Committee with power to act. The meeting then closed.
