LYTTELTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.

Theiortnightlymeetingof the Lyttelton B6rough Council was held on Monday ; presentr-the Mayor (Mr J. Stinson) amd Councillors Cook, Grubb, Ulingworth, Hobden, Radcliffe, Owen, Brice, Laurenson and Webb. Correspondence was read: — Prom the Christchurch branch of the Navy League, asking for co-operation and assistance. The letter was received, and the objects of the League were highly commended by the councillor-. Prom the Ashburton County Council inviting cooperation in an endeavour to cause the Government to divert storm water from ijhe reserves in that district. It was decided to co-operate and to write to the Government on the subject. Prom Mr W. Holmes, asking for a refund of rates on two houses which had been unoccupied for some time. The matter was referred to the Estates Committee for consideration. The Mayor stated that he could get no satisfaction frpm the Harbour Board in reference to the drain through the reclaimed ground. Something would have to be done, as several complaints had been received about the matter. It was decided to take steps to keep the drain from becoming a nuisance -in the meantime, and to ascertain the legal position in regard to the matter. The Finance ' Committee recommended payments amounting to .£lB2 16s, and stated that the receipt? since last meeting had been 16s 3d. The committee recommended that the rates on the building known as the Cambridge Hotel should be reduced. The report was adopted. The Bathing Committee reported being unable to recommend any expenditure at the bathing place. The season was now about clo_ed, and the committee hoped that during the the winter some permanent baths might be found. The report was adopted. The Sanitary Committee was requested to inquire fully into the sanitary condition of the town and report at next meeting. The tender of Messrs Cook Bros. (.£37 10s) for building a tool-shed was accepted. After routine business the meeting closed. '■''■'
