The question whether fruiterers carrying on other business in the same shop must close on the half-holiday has been referred to the law officers. DUNEDIN, March 3.' At the Caledonian ground last night, S. M'Donald lowered the mile and a half record previously held by HaU, of Timaru, to 3m_a 39_sec, also getting inside the mile standard. White, of the Otago Club, succeeded in taking four-fifths of a second off the half-mile standard, Crow also reducing it by the fifth of a second.
