SWIMMING.

EAST CHRISTCHURCH CLUB. The East Christelrurch Amateur Swimming Club , held its annual races at the Gloucester Street school baths on Saturday afternoon. Fine weather, a good attendance and close finishes all combined to make the meeting a success. A commendable feature of the management was the punctuality observed. Novelty was added to the programme by the performance of the Monte Christo feat by J. Hall and diving from a height of about thirty-five feet by G. Bush and E. Daye. One of the most exciting races of the afternoon was the Challenge Relay Race, in which three teams— Christchurch, East Christchurch andßichmond — competed. Theracewaswon by the Christchurch Club just on the touch. The Inter-Club Handicap, of 78yds, was won by W. Lennon, of the East Christchurch Club, after a very keen struggle. J. Northey (Richmond) finished second, and W. J. Stratton (Christchurch) third. The Maiden Handicap, the Juniors' Race, and the Schoolboys' Race all brought out a large number of competitors. Mr E. W. Roper acted as starter, Messrs W. H. Cooper and G. Harris as judges, and Messrs E. A. England and M. Sandstein as timekeepers. The following are details :— Maiden Handicap, 52 yards — First heat: E.
