Police Change.— Constable 'Egan, who has been stationed at Temuka for some years, has received notice that he is to be transferred to Havelock. Darfielp.— At a meeting of the Darfield ' School Committee on Feb. 22 it was resolved to vote for Messrs Adamß, Peryman and "Vy.estou as members of the Board of Education. Summebhill. — At a special meeting of the Summerliill School Committee, held on Tuesday evening, it was decided to vote for Mesßrs Adamß, Peryman and Weston's election to the Board of Education. Temuka Rifles.— The Temuka Rifle 3 have accepted the tender of tho New Zealand Clothing Factory at £3 7s each for tho supply of new uniforms. The uniforms consist of blue Norfolk jacket with scarlet facings, Zouave trousers, service caps and gaiters. • ' Pbebbleton.— A trial of Messrs Drum* mond and Sons' new check spring cultivator took place yesterday afternoon at Mr P. J. Fryer's farm, Prebbleton. The ground chosen for the trial was stubble land, with. a large quantity of twitch in places. The machine did very satisfactory work, and many of the farmers present spoke highly in its praise. One point in its favour, is its lightness, three horses . being sufficient to draw the machine. Wesleyan Chubch, Temuka. — A very enjoyable garden party waa held at Mr J. Brown's grounds, Ashfield, Temuka, on Thursday last. It was organised for -the purpose of raising funds for 'the Wesleyan Church. Outdoor games, boating on the artificial water, refreshments and music by the Temuka Brass Band served to afford ample opportunity for enjoyment, and Mr Brown was heartily thanked by visitors generally, for opening his grounds for tho occasion.. St Saviour's Sunday School, Temuka. —On Thursday evening the teachers of Sfc Saviour's Sunday School, Temuka, held an entertainment to. enable the Key J. F. Teakle, Diocesan Inspector, to meet pupils and their parents.. Under tho management of Mrs Farley a very enjoyable programme was gone through. Mr Teakle gave a brief but instructive address, pointing out the duties of parents towards tha school, and urging special effort for the reduction of the remaining debt. National Association.— A meeting of those interested in forming a branch of the National Association at Prebbleton was held in the local schoolroom last evening. More than thirty persons were present, and Mr J. Hastie oocupied the chair. Several of the officers of the Association attended and addressed the meeting. It was unanimously decided to form a branch of the Association at Prebbleton. The platform of the Canterbury section was read and adopted, and Mr G. Haydon was appointed secretary pro tern. The election of a chairman and committee was postponed until next meeting. Cultivator Trial. — A very successful trial of Messrs P. and D. Duncan's new patent spring-tooth cultivator took place on Thursday at Mr M. Banna's farm, Sefton. There was a numerous attendance of farmers, who appeared most favourably impressed, with the work done by the cultivator... The ground operated upon was stubbie, with patches of twitch. The teeth of the cultivator loosened the ground to a depth of six inches, and brought the twitch and other - weeds to the surface. The way -in winch the . machine cleared itself of ; twitch was surprising. Tho machine was also tried in a hard road, which it went through without a hitch, and showed the great strain the tines will stand. Several of the farmers were so pleased with the work that they ordered machines on the ground.
