UNIVERSITY SENATE.

[Pek Press Association.] WELLINGTON, Feb. 28.. The University Senate resumed this morning. On the motion of Bishop Cowie, the Eev J. M. Nelson was appointed as the Senate's member of the Board of Governors of Auckland College and Grammar School. Professor Brown moved—" That section 1 of the statutejdealing with the 1851 science | scholarship he amended so as to read : 'Candidates for any science scholarship offered by Her Majesty's Commissioners for the exhibition of 1851 to members of the New Zealand University must be graduates of the University,, and must take first •or second - class honours in chemistry, physical science or mathematical physics before nomination.' " Bishop Cowie moved, as an amendment — " That the question be referred to a Select Committee." The amendment was carried. The- report of the committee of the whole on the Chancellor's address was then considered. The committee recommended that the statute " Senior scholarships" should be amended by substituting for the words "English, and either French or German," the words " two of the following languages : — English, French or German." This was agreed to. The proposals of the Professor of Modern Languages in Canterbury College regarding the B.A. and B.Sc. degree examinations, and of the professors of biology in affiliated institutions regarding the B.Sc. pass examination were referred to a Select Committee. Several other ■ select comniittoes were also set up. The Senate then adjourned till to-morrow morning.
