DEER-STALKING EXTRAORDINARY.
On the opening day of the deer shooting 1 season in Nelson (says the Colonist), Mr Percy Adams, who was accompanied by his son, and also by his man, saw a fine stag on a ridge, and succeeded in getting -within about a hundred and fifty yards of the animal, whose form was outlined against the sky, when the stalkers were able to count the ten points of its antlers. Taking careful aim lie fired and the stag fell, but a few seconds later a stag struggled to itß feet, and again it was seen that the animal was a ten-pointer, and Mr Adamß again fired, but though bis aim told, he had to fire two more shots before he actually, killed it. The animal had in the meantime descended the hill, and the stag was duly conveyed to town, but on the following day Mr Adams walked along the ridge on which stood the stag at which he first fired, and on reaching the precise place he found a tenpointer shot through the throat with its spine pierced by the bullet, and which had fallen dead where it stood. The stag which he subsequently shot must' have been lying down when its companion was shot, and though Master Adams declared at the time °that it was a different stag, it was thought impossible that it could be so. Unfortunately the first stag shot had been attacked by flies before it was found, but a fine pair of antlers have been secured.
