LAND BOARD.
• — A mooting of the Canterbury Land Board was held on Thursday ; present — Messrs J. W. A. Marchant (Commissioner of Crown Lands), D. M'Millan and A. C. Pringle. The following appropriations were granted : — Matthew Woods, lease in perpetuity, Section 1, Eeserve 1170, Block XVI./ . 10 acres, Waimate ,• Anna Brewsteiy Section 15, Braeo settlement, . .Block X.', 1 acre, Christchurch ; Mary Jane Farrbll, village homestead lease in perpetuity, Section 14, Eeserve 2332, Block IX., 50 acres, Oxford ; John Robinson, lease in perpetuity, Section 35933, Block IX., 201 acres 3 foods, Opihi. The Crown Lands Eanger'sreportswere read with regard to a number of leases and holdings. It was resolved to re-open forfeited rural section 36229 under Part 111. of "The Land Act, 1892," as a lease in perpetuity, and also to re-open forfeited rural section SOM-O. A petition was received from settlers in the Otaio settlement, and in response it was decided to grant them an extension of time till March 31 in which to pay their rent. It was decided to draw the attention of the Survjpyor-General to the necessity for an amendment of the law to enable certain leases in perpetuity at Lake Elleamere to be dealt with as pastoral leases if unsuitable for residence. In response to an application from the lessee of Runs 96 and 98, Mount Albert and Otawaiti Stations, Makarora, for assistance in erecting rabbit-proof fences, it was resolved to reply that the Board had no power to comply with the request. The Board approved of the modified scheme of allotment submitted by the Commissioner of Crown Lands in connection with the extension of holdings at the View Hill Village Settlement, and also of the issue of leases and licenses in connection therewith under the provisions of the Land Act.
