LOCAL CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES.

Fine weather again favoured local cricketers on Saturday. The wicket for- . the senior game at Lancaster Park was a , perfect one, but that at Hagley Park was : not a good one. In both the senior and junior competitions the chief interest was taken in the matches at Lancaster Park, .; and the band of H.M.S. Orlando was an , additional attraction to visitors. . . ,

I SENIOR CUP'

Lancaster Park v. Midland. [ The Lancaster Park team won the toss, and of course took advantage of the beau- [ tiful -wicket and the fast out-field. The . result -was that the unbeaten Midlanders were kept in the field till stumps were drawn for the day, and were given an afternoon's leather-hunting. As usual Cuff and C. Ridley began the innings for the Lancastrians. The former started at once and scored very rapidly all over the field. Eidley was very steady and careful in his play, but the century was posted without a separation in spite of numerous changes in the bowling. At 106, however, De J&Taus got a good one past Cuff, who retired with a finely hit 81 to his credit. C. Eidley, Cooke and A. Eidley left just afterwards, and the Midland barometer rose rapidly. Orchard and North took the score to 141 before the former was out, and 10 runs later North left. Fowke scored steadily, and after Wildinpr was out he was well assisted by Hasell, who executed some brilliant strokes on the off side. The Midland fielding was not up to the mark, and the team suffered in consequence. Several confident appeals for lbw and catches at the wicket were answered in the negative, and at the call of time the score stood at 273 for eight wickets. Scores : —

UNITED V. OYDENHAM AND ADDINGTON. This gaino was played at Hagley Park,

; upon a wicket which was very fiery and! and bumpy at one end. The Sydenham! team batted first, but made very little: headway against the United bowling. Two : men were absent, and the total of the innings was 107. Mallock hit up -21 veryquickly, but the. best batting was shown by Walmsley and Stevens. The fielding of the suburban team was very poor,, no less than : five catches being missed. Asa consequence the old club is riot far below its opponents' score for the loss of only two wickets. Scores :—

Bowling Analysis. — Fraukißh, 48 balls, 21 maidens, 11 runs : Collins, 102 balls, 8 maidens, 32 runs, 6 wickets ; Sims, 18 balls, 21 runs ; D. Wood, 57 runs, 1 maiden, 15 runs, 4 wickets; E. 0. Kitto, 18 balls, 1 maiden, 13 runs, 2 wickets.

The unfinished game between the Lancaster Park and United senior elevens will be continued this evening at 5 o'clock at Hagley Park. .''■•'. \
