NO. 6 BAND—WAIMATE BAND.

(Conductor : Me J. E. Harwood.) j Opening: Fair attack, but band out; of tune, better precision generally wanted, p arid /.want more; attention,. staccato bars not nice. Marcato : Want of tongue and not balanced.. ; Con fuoco: Trumpeting very slovenly, bass solo only fair, band tot altogether last four bars, . cadenza too hurried; Andante : Accompaniment too. loud; and- unsteady, trombone getting a good tone but rather stiff, cadenza slight slip, otherwise fairly good, tempo going better, from bar 25 out of tune, bashes accents' and' quayers in each group, cadenza very stiff, pause bar badly in tune. Allegro: Bottom of band : fairly good but want top, staccato bars hot neat . and p not : attended to, . better precision required all through, cadenza, fair. Moderato: Noti together, accompaniment too heavy, soprano joins out of tune, cadenza fair, shot notes not together; Tempo: Very faitf but basses muddy. Con animato: Wants more go, appears very laboured. Spirito: Band improving, cadenza very fail". Andante : Accompaniment fair, euphonium a little jerky, band very uneasy from bar 4, cornet thick at bar 8, cornets too loud at bar 19, crotchet in cadenza bar not left .together, baritone and euphonium fair until euphonium gets mixed. Allegro : Want of precision and tone, soprano and horn very much out at bar 11. Tempo : Better articulation required all round, basses going fairly well, band improves a little in style after L but still out of tune, makes a fair finish. Points ... 70.
