SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

The monthly meeting of the West Christchurch, School Committee was held on 'Tuesday .,', evening; present — Messsrs W. M'dea ((chairman), G. Tombß, T. W. Sandiford, G. T. Chisnall, H; Curlett, J. Isbister, Or. "Watson, H. C. Godfrey and Dr Moorliouse. The sub-committee reported tb,e ' Tjurchase of the -piano authorised; The' nead-master reported that of the eleven pupil-teachers who went up for the recent examination all passed, and the names of ten appeared on the merit list; also, that a Board of Education scholar-: ship, a Caledonian Society scholarship, and one senior and one junior scholarship offered by the Board of Governors of the Girls' High School had' Ijeen won by pupils of the school. It was resolved to congratulate the head-master and his assistants upon the highly satisfactory results ; of the recent examinations. It was resolved to ascertain the cost of top-dressing the asphalt round the school, as the head-master reported it required doing. ;The' Secretary was instructed to send notice to the parents of the boys who have been very irregular in attendance at the school. The committee agreed to vote , for Messrs, T. S. Weston, G. Tombs and L> . Moorhouse for election on the Board of Education. The balance to the credit of. the committee was stated to be .£ls 9s 2d. A meeting of the Richmond School Committee was lield on Wednesday; present— ; , Messrs Snowball, (chairman), Hughes, Parlow, Shaw, Mander, Paull; Bell and Sprensen. It was reported that f our pupilteachers had passed their respective examinations, three being in the first class ; two scholars had obtained scholarships for two , years in the High School, and a third had received; a junior Somes' scholarship: It •was resolved that the. master and staff ehouldbe congratulated on their success. Messrs Weston, Peryman and Webb were .nominated for seats on the Board of Education. Letters were received from the School of Cookery and the honorary Secretary of the Richmond Swimming Club, and the matters mentioned were attended .y-''to. •" : ! . ;•;.•
