THE GOVERNMENT CANDIDATE.

- TO THE EDITOR. ..' : Sir,— l feel persuaded that CbrisiSchurch is not. going to be "hoodwinked" into returning a member on this bccasion under false pretences as an advanced Liberal; but. .■Will elect a tried and proved representative, who formerly represented them in Parliament., Mr R. M. Taylor is a man who has always looked after the male and female interests of the working classes by strenuously advocating the eight-hour system, the bettering of female employes in obtaining a minimum wage, and in curtailing the sweating system, besides diligently and judiciously advocating the claims of Christchurch in an effective and successful manner during his term in Parliament. I cannot think that the electors of Christchurch -take the views of an "Advanced Liberal" into serious consideration. Mr T. E. Taylor (protests too much, as you will find when the numbers go up. Tbe people are very well acquainted with the "respect" he bears towards the Government, by his public and private utterances, contradicting himself to suit his own convenience, and are not going to be misled by his lawyer-like pleadings. The electors cannot afford to have j another member returned to the House -posing as a Liberal, and, perhaps, on a national crisis " wobbling " into the wrong lobby. - No, thank you,'. Mr T. E. Taylor ; this constituency cannot return another "rail-sitter." The Wttle cry is Seddon or Stout, and I expect the verdict to be the return of Mr R. M. Taylor by 1500 majority. — I am, &c, HONEST LIBERAL.
