CHEISTCHUECH. Tuesday, Feb. 11. (Before Mr J. Hamilton, J.P., and Mr T. Gapes, J.P.) Alleged False Pretences.— Michael Dbbeck was charged with having, on August 5 and 12, obtained' from Albert Arthur Fantham cattle of the value of .£159 16s by means of false pretences. Inspector Broham applied for a remand to enable the accused to be brought before the Court at Hawera. Accused, when arrested on the previous day, admitted that he was the man. The Bench remanded accused to appear at Hawera on Feb. 18. Threatening Language. — Charles Allpress was charged with having, on Jan. 23, at Spreydon, used threatening and abusive language towards Charles D. Scott. Mr Donnelly appeared for the complainant; The evidence of the' complainant, his wife and niece shewed that on the date mentioned the defendant, met' the complainant and made use of bad language: towards him. Defendant denied using the language; and stated that he had not spoken to the complainant once during the past three months. Defendant was fined £2, and costs £1 Bs. . ' ' : (Before Mr E. Beetham, S.M.) Civil Cases. — Judgment was for plaintiffs by default in : — Hislop and Co. v. W. Tibbes, claim 19s ; same v. Frank Wilson, £2 3s 3d; Kaiapoi Woollen Company v. Jones and Ashdown, .£45 3s ; Wood and Laurie v. J. C. Archibald, £26 15s ; W. Halliday v. E. W. Stradling, .£1 ss ; W. J. Byrne v. J. Nixon, jun., 10s 6d. Judgment summons: — J. F. Murray v. R. Williams, claim .£23 98. Defendant did not appear, and an order was made that the money be paid forthwith, in default three months' imprisonment.— Mrs M. Cox v. Hugh M'Coll, £2 7s ; John Gillies v. E. A. Dowden, .£34 13s 3d; andM. Woodrough v. H. Brown and Helen Brown, were adjourned.—The case in which Joseph F. Lewthwaite sued his brother, John Lewthwaite, for wages, again came on for hearing and the Court was again occupied all day with the details of the account.
