WORK AND WAGES.

■» — '■ [Per Pbbss Association.] AUCKLAND, Feb. 10. The annual meeting of the Auckland Typographical Association was held on Saturday evening. The Hon W. T. Jennings, president, occupied the chair. Correspondence which had passed between the Board and the Premier in reference to Government advertisements in nonsociety journals published in the leading provinces .was laid before the meeting. The result of the correspondence was considered unsatisfactory, and it was resolved that the President and Secretary should draft a further letter to the Premier points ing out that what the Association wished to secure in connection with the local dispute was the adoption of the principle . endorsed by the Premier in his recent address at Sydenham,' namely, that women should fee paid the same wages as men for equal work. The report and balance-sheet were submitted and adopted. The report dealt with several questions of special interest to the trade, such as the new tariff (which is considered very unsatisfactory) and Government advertisements in non-union publications. The report also expressed pleasure at the continued friendly relations between the Association and nearly all the master printers. The balance-sheet showed, that nearly .£25 had been added to the funds during the hist six months, the income having been .£54 12s 5d and the expenditure .£B9 14s. The balance to credit of the Association was .£l5B, and the number of members on the roll was 106. The Hon "W. T. Jennings 1 was reflected President. The President drew attention to. a clause in the Land Act Amendment Billpapsed last session, whereby any industrial union could take up one hundred acres of land on behalf of ' its members. He briefly pointed out that this would, be of greatadvantage to members of working organisations, and asked the Association to carefully consider the Act.
