THE HARVEST.

The fine harvest weather of the past week enabled the farmers in North Canterbury to almost complete the ingathering of the crops. The threshing machines are now busy, and very good yields of wheat are spoken of— from 10 to 15 bushels per acre above the ordinary returns from the same land in past years. The bean harvesting is now beginning to occupy attention. Our Leeston correspondent writes : — Ideal harvest weather has been experienced here since Monday last, and harvest operations have been progressing favourably. Given a few more fine days, the harvest will be practically over, after which a good rain would be most desirable for the pas- '. tures and turnip crops.
