THE BOOTMAKEES' CONPEEENCE.
The following report of the sittings of the 'cpnference, which commenced at Inglis's Buildings on Tuesday last, at 2.30 p.m., has- been supplied by the Joint Committee:— ■■.■;■• Theconference was. an adjournment of the one held about three months ago, at 'which no settlement was effected. During the past : week the conference has been sitting twice daily, either in full conference or sittings of sub-committees appointed to discuss pertain questions. This morning the subncommittees failed to agree on the matters at issue,when it was unanimously resolved by that committee to .recommend the conference to pass the following resolutions— '; \ v .'"•■•.'•., ■" ■ ' '.' ■ "The sub-committees, having fully <&&-: cussed the present: position, have agreed that to proceeid any further with the business of the conference, would be utterly futile, and.; tKat v until the principles involved in the proposed general rules and conditions of labour, dire finally settled, it is impossible to . discuss wages. ' In the meantime both, sides agree to work on theprices and cohr ditions contained in the statement signed by Mr Eee,cie,.. subject to, twenty-one days' notice of alteration by- cither side." Although the parties were unable to come to any settlement, the conference dissolved 'without any bitterness of feeling on either side.
