THE BALLING AND BARNETT CONCERT.

Herr Michael Balling And MrManghim Barnett will appear together in Christchurch. on Thursday evening next, and tliose who have had the pleasure of hearing these* artists speak in the very highest terms of their abilities. Mr Barnett 'is already known here as a pianoforte soloist of more than ordinary, merit, and the brilliancy of his execution is . probably greater now 'than when he was here last. His colleague, Herr Billing, is perhaps less known. His instrument, the violaalta, somewhat larger than a violin and smaller than a 'cello, is one comparatively new to Christchurch audiences. As it is held like a.fiddle a good physique is one of the necessary qualifications for a performer, and this Herr Balling certainly possesses. It is, however, in his mastery of the instrument that he commands the admiration of his audience, and he is said to be capable of rousing his hearers to great enthusiasm. In tKto co.nta.bihi passages especially the beautifully pure tones of the instrument are heard to exceptional advantage. Herr Balling has certainly introduced to those who have have heard him new pleasures, which many music-lovers in the colony will gratefully remember.
