THE CHRISTCHURCH ELECTION.

A meeting of the friends and supporters of Mr T. E. Taylor was held last evening in the Wesleyan schoolroom, Sydenham. Rev W. Gr. Parsonson presided, and about 250 persons were present. Mr Taylor, in an address of over two hours' duration, referred to the leading political questions of the day, and at the conclusion of the address Mr C. Simpson moved — " That the meoting thanks Mr Taylor for his address, and pledges itself to do its utmost to secure his election as member of the House of Representatives." Mr Field seconded the motion, which was enthusiastically carried, and a large number of names were added to the already strong committees in the various wards. A meeting of Mr Scott's central committoo was held last evening, Mr Rogers being voted to the chair. There was a good attendance, and a great deal of routine business was got through. Arrangements were made for inaugurating the various branch committees in the suburbs. As will be seen by advertisement elsewhere, Mr Charles Lewis invites his friends and supporters to meet him in the Druids' Hall, Colombo Street, Sydenham, this evening at eight o'clock. Mr Lewis .will meet his lady friends and supporters at the committee rooms, High Street, this afternoon at three o'clock.
