LABOUR AND LIBERAL ORGANISATIONS.
MEETING OF DELEGATES.
There was a good attendance at the adjourned meeting of delegates from the Bootmakers' Union, Plumbers' Union, Tailoresses and Pressers' Union, Canterbury' Women's Institute, Progressive Liberal Association and Amalgamated Society of Carpenters and Joiners, which met in the Trades Hall on Saturday night for the purpose of receiving the reply from the Canterbury Federated Liberal Council, and to take such steps as the reply might give rise to. Mr W. Williams (Bootmakers' Union) occupied the chair. Correspondence was read from the Federated Liberal Council, intimating that the constitution could not be altered uiitil the half-yearly meeting in June, and, further, that the Council considered that representation on a numerical, financial basis would be unfair, absurd and vmworkable. On the motion of Mr Large, seconded by Mr Barlow, the letter was received. After a lengthy discussion, the following decision was arrived at with the unanimous consent of the meeting: — "That steps be taken to form a central Political Council in which all Labour and Liberal Political Associations shall be represented." It was also decided to set up a committee to frame a constitution and. platform to be submitted to an adjourned meeting of delegates to be held on Saturday next. A vote of thanks to the chairman brought the meeting to a close.
