The test races under the auspices of the League of Wheelmen, to select competitors for the forthcoming championship events in Melbourne, on Jan. 27, were held yesterday. Lewis won the Five-mile in 12min 32sec, and Payne 1 Mile in 2min 21sec, both races producing splendid finishes. A LOYAL MESSAGE.' ,

A STATION TRAGEDY. A tragedy is reported from the Nanima Station, near Forbes, White Elms. The' owner of the station was at breakfast with his wife and family, when .a relative who was interested in the property, and whom Elms recently displaced as manager, walked into the room and deliberately shot Elms dead. DEATHS FROM HEAT.

Several deaths from excessive heat are reported from the country districts. The hot northerly wind still continues.
