CANTERBURY FEDERATED LIBERAL COUNCIL.

This Council met last evening. There was a full attendance of delegates and the President occupied the chair. A mass of outward correspondence was read and approved. Letters were read from the second conference held under the auspices of the Trades Council, the Progressive Liberal Association, the Painters' Union, the Canterbury Branch of Eailway Servants, the Amalgamated Carpenters and Joiners, the New Zealand Workers' Union, the Ballance Liberal Association, and the Women's Political Association, on affiliation matters, and from Mr Charles Louisson, on election business. The Executive was instructed to reply to the Trades Council Conference, giving reasons why the Council objected to the financial numerical basis of representation, the full text of. : the reply to bo published. The deputation appointed to interview probable Liberal candidates for the Chrißtchurch seat made their report, which was approved, and a vote of thanks passed to them. It was resolved that the names of the three supposed Liberal candidates, Messrs J. L. Scott, E. M. Taylor andT. E. Taylor be balloted for, and the result was the unanimous selection of Mr J. L. Scott as the Liberal candidate. It was resolved that the delegates form part of the committee in the districts in which they may reside in favoxir of Mr J. L. Scott, and it was further decided to urge the members of affiliated bodies and Liberals of all shades to do their best to secure the return of Mr Scott. After a long and interesting discussion on the basis of representation, and the consolidation of the Liberal Labour party, the meeting closed.
