The weather wa9 perfect for the holiday yesterday, and a very large nuinbsr of people went to the various pleasure roeortv." sSome twenty thousand persons viaited the Metropolitan Show, 7000 of whom went by tho Chriatchurch Company's trams and 3326 by tho railway, the balance going out either by drags or on foot. The trotting meeting at Lancaster Park attracted a large number of those interested in sporting matters. The Christ church Tramway Company carried nearly seventeen thousand passengers, some live thousand of whom went through to Sumner, the others being carried to the Show Grounds and on tho Papanui and Sydenham linea. The New Brighton Tramway Company took about 3000 to New Brighton, and every available conveyance was brought into requisition to carry the large number of holidaymakers out of town. The day pasßed off without any serious accident, a i'aot which reflects great credit on the manner in which the traffic was managed by the Tramway Companies, who had the bulk of the. work to do.
