Acclimatisation Society.
A meeting of the Council of the Canterbury Acclimatisation Society was held yesterday afternoon j present — Messra A. Scott (in the ohair), W. B. Izard, G. B. Bitchie, H. N. Nalder, L, E. Clark and Drs Dendy and Moorhouse. Apologies for absence were received from Messra A. Carrick, J. N. Hamer and P. Cunningham. The Garden Committee reported that a meeting had been held on Auguab 13. Ib had been deoided to nse the ground adjoining the hospital reserve for the new races, and to sink two new wells there. About 100,000 more ova had been taken than in the previous year, and thn hatching had been successful. The bulk of the ova had been taken from the Avon. Owing to continued floods no ova had been obtained from the Selwyn and Waimakariri. The curator reported that larger fish were to be seen and in greater numbers tbis year in the Avon than ia any previous year. The report was approved. Tho Secretary reported that the races had boen completed with the labour put at the disposal of the society by the Winter Work Fund Committee, and that tbe two v.e113 hsd besn sunk, giving a good supply. A large number of fiah had been lib.rated in tho upper and low6r waters of the Avon. After dealing with other business the Council adjourned.
