THE COMMITTEE'S RECOMMENDATIONS.
I understand that the Bank Committee has practically concluded itß labours, and only meets to-morrow to resolve upon what facts Shall be laid before Parliament along with the report. The recommendation of the committee will be practically unanimous, but I should not be surprised if Sir E. Stout should dissent and present separate recommendations. No party feeling has, however, entered into the deliberations of the committee, and the recommendations are, I believe, of a kind that will prove acceptable to the country. I can almost positively assure your readers that there will be no scheme for amalgamation with any other bank, and no proposals for State responsibility beyond what is necessary to acquire the properties of the Bank of New Zealand Estates Company. Definite proposals, involving large responsibilities, were submitted by the bank Directors, but these were rejected and a sub-committee then drew up independent • recommendations, whioh the full committee adopted with slight modification.
