THE WEATHER.

» Our Akarqa correspondent writes i — After a short spell of fine weather* winter has returned 1 in, if possible, worse form. On Monday night a heavy fall of Bnow oo curred, and on Tuesday hail- 'and snow fell with little intermission,- the ground being quite covered,. while on the hills the Bnow must be a considerable depth. Owing to the drifting, some of the roads over the rangea to the bays are well-nigh impassable. To-day (Wednesday) the coach was unable to get through, Mr Barker bringing the mails over on horse-back. Our Greendale correspondent writes : — The weather here is of a most wintry description, and, indeed, has been for the last month. On Sunday last a heavy rain fell nearly all day, followed by a severe snowstorm on Monday. The snow fell almost continuously all day, and attained an average depth of six to seven inches. Tuesday waß a fine morning, with a strong, cold south-west wind, which whirled the snow in all directions. This had the effect of almost stripping the level land and an- { covering the grass, of which there is very little. Agricultural pursuits of all descriptions are at a complete standstill, and it will be some time before any sowing can be done. Early lambs must Buffer severely. The ranges in the back country present a most magnificent view, Bnow everywhere, with a little open bush by way of relief.
