Ballance Liberal Association.

» The usual meeting was held laab Thursday in the Waltham Library. There was a good attendance, including delegates from the Women's Political Association. Eight candidates were proposed and twenty-three new members elected. A vote of sympathy with Vice-Preßident Lawrence was passed in connection with the death of his daughter. The following resolutions were passed:— (1) "That this Association heartily congratulates the Hon W. P. Beeves on the Buccess which has attended the placing of working men and their families on the waste lands of the colony, by means of the alternative system, and believes that this system is one of the beßt means yet devised of relieving the depressed state of the labour market, and trusts he will be able in the immediate future to extend the system which is already doing such good work." (2) " That this Association agrees with the general principles ot the Public Tenders Act." (3) Eegarding Industrial Schools Act amendment — "That this Association sees no reason, if a capable person is appointed trustee for any inmate of an industrial school, why the Public Trustee should step in ; and where no trustee has been appointed, the Public Trustee should not have power to dispose of any property until the person interested is of age and able 'to have a voice in the disposal of his estate 1 . The Association also suggests that when the amount realised is small, the public trustee should forego his commission. For reasons before stated this Association disagrees with clause 3 of the Aot." A vote- of thanks to the lady delegates for their attendance was passed. It was resolved that the Association attend the meeting of the Addington Branch next Thursday. The question of " overtime " will *c discussed at the next meeting of the Association.
