"BEAUTIFIUL BRITAIN."

PART V.

The fifth part of " Beautiful Britain" is rendered specially attractive by the fact that itß afxteen pictures include half a dozen in which water, and reflection? therein, fond an additional charm. One of the moat effective Bubjecta in this regard is the Sains at Frogmore, a " piotnre in which the treeß as well as the old masonry convey the idea of antiquity. Broughton Caatle, the neat of Lord Saye and Sele, near the cake and cross-famed town of Banbury —a place of great note in the time of the civil wars— is beautifully mirrored in the ornamental water. A very fine picture of Windsor Castle, again, with the winding water in thef oreground, is full of charming detail that well repays minute inspection. Ona of tho most interesting interiors we have yet seen is contained in this part. It ia the Crypt at Glamis Castle, once a secret chamber. The vaulted ceiling has been carefully let alone, so that one sees at the same time tbe rudeness of the psßt and the refinement of the present. There is a wonderfully clear picture of the historic house and garden at Xttnaingtoni that was built in 1607, and passed into the possession of the Eail of Holland; and, still better, a splendid presentment of Cardiff Castle, the property of the Marquis of Bute-*-a grand pile that seems to have absolutely withstood the weatherwearing effects of eight hundred years. A specially pretty subject is Farnham Castle. The ruins arc well-nigh concealed by a wealth of foliage, and the whole of the foreground is occupied by the daintily- 1 arranged flower garden that is the delight of visitors. Other particularly good pictures are the Council Room at Oaboroe, wherein so many weighty matteVa of State 1 have been determined, and the wonderful Tapestry Boom in Chiswiok Houge. Part V. of " Beautiful Britain " will assuredly afford keen pleasure to every subscriber.
