POLITICAL.
«. _____________ *— — t [Per Pbess Association/] 1 AUCKLAND, June 6. Mr Thompson, M.H.R., addressed the Whangarei eleotora at Marsden last night. He dealt with the legislation of the past session, and said that he thought indications pointed to a public works borrowing polioy. He hoped not, but if so he must insist on getting a chare for the north. He denounced in Btrong terms the Native Land Act. He said that it was a dißgrace to the Statute Book, was stopping northern settlement, pauperising the Natives and ruining their credit. A crying injustice had been done to the north by its passing. He would use every effort for its repeal, and he thought the Natives would be justified in using every constitutional means to that end. He did not think the Minister of Labour's view of the labour question would be a cr.dit to the colony. He considered that the charge of "spoils to the victors" made against the Government was unfair and not justified. He spoke with regard to the indisposition of the Minister of Lands, who, he considered, was doing his best. He was accorded a hearty and unanimous vote of thanks and confidence.
