The Church News cays that at a meeting of the Standing Committee the Bishop stated that he had appointed Mr Henry Douglass Andrews to be Church Advocate of the diocese ; also, that he had licensed tbe Rev P. J. Cocks, 8.A., to the care of Ellesmere. The Bishop also expressed his desire that in lieu of an evening conference in a separate hall daring the session of Synod, some leading subjects of special interest to churchmen should be introduced and discussed in Synod itself. The Yen Archdeacon Cbolmondeley, the Eev T. P. Winter, and Mr W. Brittan were appointed a committee to confer with the Bishop and arrange for the proceedings on the opening day of the session— Tuesday, August 13. The Treasurer submitteda draft balance-sheet of tbe Church Mission Fund* which showed that the debit balance had been reduced during the year from £848 7s Id to .£225 19s lid. A letter was read from the Env G. M'Murray, treasurer o£ the Special Effort for Missions, stating the receipts to have been as follows :—Auckland, £330 11s sd ; Christohurch, £277 2s Id; Waiapu, £172 2s lid; Nelson, £88 4 a 3d.:, I . Total £868 0s Bd, which had been allocated as follows :— Melanesian Mission, £371 4s 6d; Maori Mission (North Island), £255 12s 9d ; New Guinea Miaßion, £211 83 Id; expenses, £23 15s 4d; Auckland Home Mission (an ear-marked donation), £6; total, £868 Oa Bd. A resolution of a meeting of parishioners of Governor's Bay, requesting that the parish may be made a parochial district, waa referred to the Diocesan Synod, with a recommendation to that effect. On the motion of Mr W. G. Brittan, it was agreed $o recommend the Diocesan Synod to amend the Interpretation Statute, adopting the term "vicarage" in lieu of " parsonage," in accordance with recent legislation of the General Synod. Archdeacon Lingard drew the attention of the committee to the fact that in some oases the Easter meetinga of parishioners had been held more than fourteen days after Easter, in contravention of the regulations.
