Wednesday, Mat 29. (Before Mr R. M. Taylor, J.P., and Mr J. Hamilton, J.P.) Obscene Language. — Mary Portelli pleaded not guilty to a charge of having, on Sunday, May 19, used obscene language in Queen. Street, Christchurch. The evidence of three witnesses showed that the accused had made use of very bad language within hearing of a number of people passing along the street. Accused, who had three previous convictions recorded against her, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment with hard labour. Maintenance Cases. — A number of cases under the Destitute Persons Act were adjourned till Friday next.
