Hospital Inquiry.

The Government has (aaya onr Wei*, lington correspondent in another portionofj thiß issue) appointed a Royal Commie--Bion to inquire into the management of) the Christchuroh Hospital. This ia tha beginning of the final step in an agitation) that haa oocupied the attention of the pubiio for several months, and it now xe>j mains for the people who have made grave imputations against certain members o£ the staff of the hospital to collect their ovidenoe for presentation to the Com* mission. ' The Commissioner, Dr Giles, ia thoroughly well qualified by long experience aa a stipendiary magistrate for the task he has undertaken, and he may be trusted to get to the bottom of the various charges without delaying the proceedings by the] admission of a mass of irrelevant evidence. 1 It would be a great convenience to all concerned if a committer}, consisting of two-or three gentlemen who have made themselves familiar with the subject, wonld tako the supervision of the case for what Mr Peryman calls the "restive public" We presume that auch a committee would be recognised by the Commissioner and afforded facilities for collecting evidence and examining witnesses. The members of the hospital staff, who are practically placed upon their trial, will, of course, receive timely and proper notice of the ohargea they are expected to answer. It ia of the firßt importance that no one ehould be left at the conclusion of the inquiry with an excuse for complaining of the manner in whioh it may have been conducted.
