In reply to a letter from the Sooiety relative to the inspection and examination* of dairies and milk, the following letten was received (rom the Colonial Secretary,] Wellington. *j

"Sir,— l have the honour to acknowledge receipt of yonr letter cf April 22, pointing** out that no inspector haß been appointed! under the Dairy Industry Aot, 1894,] for the Christohuroh district. In reply, I) am directed by the Colonial Seoretary to. inform you that on reference to the Agricultural Department it appears that several general inspectors have been appointed under tbat Act, and have from time to time visited the dairy factories in, and near Christchurch. Under the Public Health Aot, 1876, Amendment Aot, 1881, the Governor-in-Connoil may make regulations authorising local bodies to appoint*, inspectors and to provide generally for the inspection of milk and dairies within their ( distriots. Regulations so made at the; request of the Wellington City Council and] adjacent looal bodies are published in the' New Zealand Gazette of Feb. 14, 1895, page 286."

It waa reaolved to send a copy of this letter to the Chrietohurch City Connoil,J and to ask that body to take steps for the appointment of an inspector. The .proceedings then terminated.
