School Committee.
The usual monthly meeting of the Malvern School Committee was held on Tuesday ■ evening. Correspondence waa read from the Board of Education stating that the-: application for two additional rooms to the master's house could nob be granted, but a new cooking range would be forwarded. A resolution waa passed congratulating Me James Hight, M.A., who was educated at the Malvern School, on the manner in which he had passed his examination for the M.A. degree. The report showed the number on the roll to be 116, and the average attendance 83. The names of a number of children in the district had to ba struck off the roll through non-attendance. Several accounts were passed for payment, and the meeting terminated.
Tho monthly meeting of the Little Eiver School Committee was held on Tuesday evening; present — Messrs CX T. Seffcon (chairman), A. Heyerß, T. Eadford, J. Wright, D. Poley and H. Thomas. The master reported that the average attendance for the past quarter was 109 % and expressed his thanks to the committee for the way in which they had helped tho teachers during the paßtj twelve months. Misa Wallace reported the attendance at the eide school during the past quarter to have been fairly good. # Votes of thankß were accorded to the Chairman and to the Secretary for their efficient services during the past year. Several accounts were passed for payment. The St Albans School Committee met on Wednesday evening ; present — Messrs A'Court, Simpson, Swindell, M'Cleave, Morgan, Brooker, Norris and Wake. The master's report showed the attendance at the main school to be satisfactory, and the report of the side school attendance was considered very encouraging. The Inspector's report on both echools was re* ceived from - the Board, and members expressed 'themselves bb pleased with tho result of the Inspector's visit. A letter was received from Mr Owen, after consideration of which it was resolved that the Chairman, should communicate with town committees, suggesting that the householders' attention should be drawn to the disparity of ago between ton a and country children sitting for scholarships. A sab-committee of three was appointed to draw up a report for the householders' meeting. The names of five truants were elected for prosecution.
