A CURIOUS PROCLAMATION.
The North Chifia Herald states that. the Shanghai Taotai has issued a proclamation offering a reward of IQC^OOOtIs to anyone who auoceeds in defeating the enemy, caußing a loss to them of several thousand men, and a similar aum whenever a Japanese ironclad is. destroyed or captured, the reward for vessels of smaller size .being out down by one-half. The troops holding, an important pasition whu succeed in boating off the enemy will be rewarded with 30,00011 b, and a similar Bum will be given in the event of a Japanese con* verted cruiser being destroyed, while- the reward for the destruction of a torpedo boat will be 20.000b15. The deefoructioa of a. ship's boat belonging to the, enemy, and the. destruction of ten or more of the craw, will.be rewarded with lOOOfcls, and anyone presenting the beads of Japanese bandits will be gitfeii SOtls apiece.' Generals and colonels of battalions who have succeeded in defeating the enemy will not only be rewarded according to the above ecalo, but their names will also be submitted to the Throne for extraordinary promotions.
