BALLOON EXPERIMENTS.
Tha balloon •' Albatrosß," . belonging to. the military in Berlin, made an ascent, on Fab. 15, in order to ascertain wk&t effect tho intense cold would have on the balloon and instruments. The balloon Bailed away over* Sandau, went over the Bffcte, and, after a voyage of ten hours, came down towards 7 p.m. near the Baltic. At one thousand metres the wind wao from the SGUth-aouth-weßt; at two thousand metres there was a perfect calm, so that the balloon stood quite fetill for an hour above a village, not able to move. It had therefore to descend to oatati . another wind. The cold at the higher poinW-waeeo intense that .the sand in the eaoks was frozen into compaot stone. Naturally tho meat and other provisions wore frozen hard, and not fib to be need. The two German and one Austrian officer who undertook the voyage Buffered a good deal.
