OBITUARY.
[Special to Pbebb Association.]' BERLIN, Sept. 12. Professor Brugech, the distinguished German philologist and Egyptologist is dead. [He was born at Berlin, Feb. 18, 1827, and before leaving the Gymnasium evinced his fondness for Egyptological studies by a Latin treatise on the Demotic writing, 1847. Hia early publications procured for him the patronage of King Frederick William IV., under whose auspices heBtudied the monuments of Egyptian antiquity in the museums of Parfa, London, Turin and Leydea, In 1853 he made hiß firet visit to Egypt, and w&s' pre* sant at some of the important excavations conducted under the supervision of the French arohoerioght, M. Marietta. Returning to Berlin he was dpjx>inte& Keeper of the Egyptian MueoumtWe in - 1854. In 1860 he accompanied Btroß Minutoli on his embassy to Peis'a, and after the death of the baron he himself aßßumed the direction of the embassy. Subsequently he was appointed OrdinaryProfessor of Oiiental languages in the Univeisity of Gottingen, and in 1868 ordinary public professor in the Philosophical Faculty of tho same university. In Septelnbfj .1869, Professor Brugsch returned to Egypt and sucuofided. M, Marietta ft? Keeper of the Egyptian collections at' Boulab. He received the title of Bey, and afterwards that of P^sha. In September , 1881, he left Egypt in order to give i a course of lecturea upon Egyptology at the University of Beilitu.
