This Day. (Before Mr B. Beetham, 8.M.) Civil Cases. — Judgment by default, with costs, was given for plaintiffs in the following cases :— Selwyn County Council v. W. Higham, claim JEI Ba, and Fenerty and Buddie v. A. T. Enott, £2 14s.— Fletcher, Humphreys and Co. v. J. E. Nicholl, claim £2% 12s 4d; judgment summons. Mr Bruges for judgment creditor. The debtor deposed that he was a hotelkeeper and tailor, residing at Whitecliffs. He had debts to the amount of about £35 owing to him, but had only been able to collect £8 since October last. As soon as be got the money in owing to him he intended settling with Mesars Fletcher, Humphreys. His takings in the hotel amounted to about £3 10s per week, and he sometimes earned about 30s a week afc tailoring. The hotel he wsb living in did not belong to him ; the stock was worth about £10, and the furniture belonged to the landlord. He expected to get some of the money due to him immediately tho shearing season was over. The case was adjourned till Feb. 29 to enable the debtor to collect money and endeavour to pay the amount claimed. — T. Wreaks v. Tee July, claim £2 15s ld. Defendant admitted owing the money, and judgment was given for plaintiff by consent, with costs.— A. F. Mitchell v. J. Chesney, claim JBIOO, amount of an assigned debt. Mr Stringer for plaintiff ; Mr Fisher for defendant. The statement of claim showed that one George Hendeis:>n owned 200 shares in tbe New Zealand and Biver Plate Land Mortgage Company, which he sold to one J. Collins, who again sold them to defendant; that Henderson, on behalf of defendant, paid £100, being the first call of the company, and afterwards absolutely assigned the debt of £100 to plaintiff, who now sought to recover the amount from defendant.
