Mr Valentine, the dairy expert, shortly after his arrival from Australia, will make a tour of inspection of the variou3 dairy factories and creameries in tihe colony^ In all probability he will strongly advise grading 3Sew Zealand butter. The Lands Department will have about 900 aeres of fine agricultural land to offer for selection under the lease in perpetuity system at the beginning of nexb year. It is situated alongside the experimental farm of 262 acres near Waverley, which the Stock Department secured with a view to conducting some experiments for the purpose of discovering the cause of the disease in sheep on the West Coaßt. It will be cut up and offered in sections of from 50 to 150 acres. Graaß is luxuriant upon it, and there are patches of bush. It was formerly held by Messrs Hearne and Kennedy, and upon the expiration of their lea3e recently it fell into the hands of the Government. It is situated on the inland side of the railway. Two officers and three apprentices of the barque Spirit of the Dawn, wrecked on the Antipodes islands, leave for England by the Aorangi, their passages being paid by the Board of Trade. Of five seamen, three found employment, and there are berths open for two others if they choose to take them. The Survey Department is pushing on with the survey of the Native lands in the East Cape district, with a view to the acquisition of some of them by the Government. The part now under offer, over 100,000 acres, in thia district is being surveyed, the owners being the Ngatiporou tribe. It ia broken land o£ very good quality, suitable for settlement in sections up to 2000 acres;
