*» EAST CHRISTCHURCH AMATEUR SWIMMING CLUB. The fourth annual exhibition of aquatic sports under the auspices of the East 1 Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club was held on Saturday afternoon. The sport wes of an interesting character. Forßome reason only about fifteen members took part in the sports, and it seems strange that a Club with a membership of over three hundred could only raise from its own ranks a handful of competitors for its annual carnival. The officials discharged their duties in an efficient manner, and the eventß were got off promptly. The following are the results of the principal events : : — 100 yds Inter-Club Handicap. — First heat : H. L.. Armitage (Richmond), 143 ec, 1; S. L. Partridge (East Christchurch), scr, 2 ; C. H. Fox (Christchurch), Bsec, 3. W. Cleary (Lyttelton) 18sec, ako started. Won by two yards ; an inch or two between second and third. Time— 9sf sec. Second heat : A. E. Roper (East Christchuroh), 23ec,1; E. A. East (East Christchurch), 18aec, 2. Won easily by two yardß. Time—87fsec. Third heat: C. Kent (Sydenham), 16sec, 1: W. H, Carl (East Christchuroh), 20sec, 2. W. F. Kiddey (Lyttelton), 12sec, also Btarted. Won very easily by eight yards. Time — 104|sec. Fourth heat : P. Cleary (Christchurch), 2sec, 1 ; G. A. Rich (Lyttelton), 12sec, 2. A. C. Hinge (East Chrißtchurch), 21 sec, also started. Won easily by two yards and a half. Time— 9osec. Fifth heat: F. F. Williams (Christchurch), 21sec, 1; H. Dunnage (East Christchurch), 3seo, 2. F. Ward (Richmond), 18sec, also started. Won ou the touch. Time — 108|sec. Final heat : C. Kent (Sydenham), 16 3 ee, 1; H. L. Armitage (Richmond), 143 ec, 2; P. Cleary (Christchurch), 2aec, 3. A. E. Roper (East Christchuroh), 2seo, 4. Won on the touch ; Cleary a yard away a foot in front of Roper. Time— 9B-fsec. Blindfold Race, 50ydB.— A. C. Hinge 1, S. C. Wathew 2. Five started. Egg and Spoon Race, 50yds. — T. H. Hughes (Richmond) 1, L. Longuet (East Christchurch) 2. Five started. Obstacle Race.-— S. L. Partridge 1, A. Duncan 2, R. N. Duncan and C. Le Mereier also started. Won by a yard.
