Auction.— Joseph Clarke and Son will sell, at their room 3, to-morrow at 2.30, a quantity of tomatoes, ripe bananas, plums, lemons, gooseberries and cocoanuts. Lyttblton Regatta.— The meeting of the Committee of the Lyttelton Regatta which was called for this evening, has been unavoidably postponed until after election day. Entertainment. —An entertainment consisting of a farce, an exhibition of the phonograph, and a miscellaneous pro* gramme, will be given in the Oddfellows' Hall to-morrow evening. The Premier.— Arrangements have been made for the Hon R. J. Seddon to give an address in Tattersall's repository on Saturday night. The seats round the ring will be reserved for ladies and gentlemen accompanying them. Railway Servants' Society.— The meeting of the Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants, advertised to be held in the Working Men'a Club this evening, will not be held till to-morrow (Thursday), at the same hour and place. Ha.bfer and Co.'s Case.— Hib Honor Mr Justice Denni&ton will sit at 10 o'clock to-morrow morning, when he will hear motions by Mr Joynt and Mr Wilding for the quashing of the indictments against T. W. Maude and George Harper. Entertainment. — A ventriloquial and variety entertainment will be given this evening in the tent opposite the Theatre RoyaL The programme includes comic singing, step-dancing, &c, and concludes with a distribution of gifts. The admission will be free. Funeral.— The remains of the late Captain Lanauze, accountant and clerk at the Chriatchurch Police Dep6t, were interred in the Avonside Cemetery this afternoon. Owing to the Supreme Court sitting in criminal jurisdiction it was impossible for many of the members of the force to attend to pay their last mark of esteem and respect to the departed. Those, however, whose duty allowed them to be preßent made part of the cortege, and were present during toe interment,. Supreme Court.— The criminal session of the Supreme Court was continued yesterday morning before his Honor Mr Justice Denniston. John Frederick Eeece was sentenced to six months' imprisonment with hard labour on two charges of forgery and uttering. Edmund Reynolds was sentenced to four years for as-aultand robbery, and William Thomas was sentenced to two years for the same offence. Sidney Head was sentenced to eighteen months for embezzlement. Joseph Cawthine' was found not guilty of receiving property known to be stolen.. Charles Hilary Parker was sentenced to three months foi a misdemeanour in bankruptcy; The criminal sessions were resumed this morning. Hid Honov- Mr Justice Denniston sentenced Joseph Gurney to four years 1 imprisonment lor criminal assault. W. T. C. Mills was sentenced to two yeara' imprisonment for embezzlement. Five persona charged with robbery were discharged, no evidence being forthcoming to fix the offence on any individual one. Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club..— A meeting of the Committee of the Christchurch Amateur Swimming Club was held on Monday evening; presentMessrs Watson, Benham, Francis, Halliday, Henderson, Sneddon, Crummy, England and Smart (Hon Sec.) Six new members were elected. The programme for the annual aquatic sports, to be held on Dec. 9, was fixed as follows : — Grand Splash, 25yds Inter-club Dash, High Diving, Undreeßing Competition, Franchise Race, Turning Competition, Liliputian Race, Blindfold Dog and Duck Hunt, Refreshment Race, and a Polo Match with a team from the Richmond Club. The race for Dr Moorhouse's trophy will be helc on the Estuary on a day to be fixed in January, entries to be taken at once, Messrs England, Francis and Sneddon wen appointed selectors and judges of the pole players. The 75yda Monthly Handicap was fixed for Thursday, Bee. 14, at 5 p.m. and it was decided to hold the usuai Christmas Handicap on Saturday after noon, Dec. 23.
